Here's how to tell fake toll texts from real notices. **Top warning signs:** Sent from an international or random number; Asks you to reply “Y” to activate a link; Threatens licence suspension over a few dollars. **First thing to do:** Don't reply and don't tap. Check your account on the toll operator's official website or app, which you find yourself. To avoid a late fee of $50.00 and suspension of your driving privileges, pay today: ezpass-tollpay[.]icu An example scam message with the warning signs highlighted. ## How the scam works The texts copy the name of a real toll operator or city parking service and threaten a late fee or penalty. Some ask you to reply “Y” and reopen the message so the link becomes tappable. That also confirms your number is active. The payment page steals your card details, and sometimes your driving licence number and date of birth. ## Red flags to look for - **Sent from an international or random number.** Toll agencies don't text from overseas mobile numbers. - **Asks you to reply “Y” to activate a link.** A trick to get around phone safety features. - **Threatens licence suspension over a few dollars.** Out-of-proportion threats are a script. - **A strange web address.** Cheap endings like **.icu**, **.top** or **.xyz** are very common in these campaigns. ## What to do if you get one 1. Don't reply and don't tap. Check your account on the toll operator's official website or app, which you find yourself. 2. Report the text to your mobile network (in many countries you can forward it to a short code such as **7726**), then delete it. ## If you already paid or shared details ### Act quickly. It makes a difference. 1. Call your bank to block the card. 2. If you entered your driving licence details, contact the licensing authority for advice and watch for identity misuse.
