A second opinion for everyone, before they click

TapSafely is a free tool that helps anyone check whether a message, link or screenshot is likely to be a scam, and explains what to do next in plain language.

Why we built it

Scams have moved from badly spelled emails to convincing texts, cloned voices and deepfake ads. Most people who are targeted don't need a lecture. They need a quick, calm second opinion at the moment of doubt. That's what we built: a checker simple enough for a grandparent and detailed enough for the curious.

Who we are

TapSafely is built and run by A.I.T. Multiverse Consulting Ltd, an IT company based in Cyprus, for people everywhere. It's an independent service: we are not a government agency, police force, bank or law firm, and we can't investigate individual cases or recover money. How the checker works

• Pattern checks: dozens of warning signs found in real scams, such as urgency, unusual payment methods, code requests and impersonation.
• Link intelligence: who really owns a link, how old the domain is, where it redirects and whether the page imitates a brand.
• AI review: a language model assesses new patterns the rules might miss. It’s told never to call anything definitely safe.

The rules run in two places: on our server and, for the quick checks, in your own browser. That is why a check returns in about a second, and why the text of a message you paste in does not have to leave your device for the basic checks to work. The one thing we will never tell you

We will never tell you something is safe. Every result is phrased as what we did or did not find, because a checker that says “safe” and is wrong once has done more harm than it ever did good. A clean result means our checks found no known warning signs at the moment we looked. It is a second opinion, not a clearance.

This is written into the system, not just into our intentions: the instruction never to describe anything as definitely safe is part of the AI layer’s own brief, and it is published in our llms.txt so that any assistant reading this site inherits the same rule.

What makes this different from the advice pages you have already read

Most scam advice tells you what a scam looks like. That is useful once. What people actually need at the moment of doubt is three things, and almost nobody puts them in one place:

• A check you can run on the actual message, rather than a general description you have to match it against yourself.
• The reporting route for your own country, with the specific short code or line. We maintain a worldwide directory of who to contact, read from each operator’s own page and dated, because a reporting number that has quietly moved is worse than none at all.
• What to do in the next hour if money has already gone, in order, starting with the call that can still stop the payment.

We also publish Scam Weather: what people in each country are actually checking right now, built from anonymous check results. Nobody else can publish that, because it comes from the tool itself.

What it costs, and why

Nothing, to anyone, anywhere, with no account and no sign-up. A scam check that asks you to register is a scam check that will not be used at the moment it is needed, which is the only moment that counts. There is no paywall, no usage limit, and no upsell in the result.

That has to be paid for somehow, and how is set out below and in full on the affiliate disclosure. Whatever the funding, it never touches a result.

Who we cannot help

We cannot investigate a case, recover money, contact a scammer, or give you legal advice about your position. If money has moved, the two organisations that can actually act are your bank and your country’s official reporting service, and both are on what to do after a scam. We would rather send you there quickly than keep you here.

Mistakes

We will make them. A guide will go out of date, a reporting number will change, a check will flag something legitimate. When that happens, tell us at hello@tapsafely.com and we will fix it and say what changed. Our editorial policy sets out how corrections are handled and how quickly.
