How we make money, openly

TapSafely is free to use. To pay for it, we show advertising and link to some products through affiliate programmes. If you buy through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. TapSafely is run by A.I.T. Multiverse Consulting Ltd, Cyprus.

How to recognise a partner link

  • Every affiliate link has a Partner link label next to it, and a short note in the same box pointing to this page.
  • Affiliate links go through an address on our site that starts with /go/, then on to the company. They carry rel="sponsored nofollow", so search engines know they are paid links.
  • Some products we recommend pay us nothing, such as Bitwarden's free password manager. Those are marked No commission.

How we keep recommendations honest

  • Free protections, like two-step verification and a credit freeze, always come first.
  • We only recommend kinds of product that reduce a real scam risk, and we say what they can't do. A VPN, for example, does not stop scam texts, calls or fake websites.
  • We have not lab-tested the products and we don't publish scores or star ratings. Descriptions and prices come from each company's own website, with the date we checked.
  • Services that only work in one country, such as US identity monitoring, are only shown to visitors from that country.
  • Partners never see or influence checker results, scores or guide content, After a checker verdict, a box can suggest tools that help next time. It always comes after the verdict and the advice, and it never changes either.

Which programmes

We take part in, or have applied to, affiliate programmes run by or for: 1Password, Aura, Bitdefender, DeleteMe, ESET Home Security, Identity Guard, Incogni, Malwarebytes, NordPass, NordVPN, Norton 360, Proton Pass, Proton VPN, Qustodio, Surfshark, YubiKey (Yubico). Some of these run through affiliate networks such as CJ, Impact, Partnerize and Amazon Associates. The list is kept up to date as programmes change.

What we count

When someone follows a partner link, our server counts the click: which product, where on the site it was, the page, the country (from Cloudflare) and the date. No IP address, cookie or identifier is stored. The company you visit may set its own cookies to credit the referral; see its privacy notice.

Advertising

Display ads are provided by Google AdSense and are labelled “Advertisement”. We don't choose individual ads. The checker, the report and contact forms, Family Kit, the product comparison and the legal pages carry no ads. See our privacy notice for how Google uses cookies.
