Is it a scam?

5 signs to watch for

  1. It's urgent. A deadline, a threat or a “last chance”.
  2. It wants money, a code or a password. Banks and companies never ask for codes by text or phone.
  3. It has a link or number you didn't look up. Scammers send you to their own fake page or helpline.
  4. You can't easily check it. A new number, “don't tell anyone”, a caller who won't let you hang up.
  5. It asks for an unusual payment. Gift cards, crypto, a “safe account” or a stranger's bank account.

How to check

  1. Stop. Don't tap, pay or reply yet.
  2. Contact them yourself, with the app or a number you already have.
  3. Ask for our family safe word before sending any money.
